What turns them that way...

I have read the two beatings of toddler tonight, one a fatal one in Klang. Sad, very sad. What made them do the heinous act in the first place?

Life is precious, each and everyone of them. Respect for the right of others should be the order of the day.

My prayers for the surviving child, Sunny, as well as the dead one, un-named in the other report.

Innalillahiwainnailahirajiun. Allahuakbar.

-------------------------------------
In case you missed both of the reports, I have 'cut-and-paste' them below:-
----Case 1----

Boy's two-year nightmare over

11 February, 2007

JOHOR BARU: He has been treated more like a punching bag over the the past two years. On Wednesday, the suffering of the four-year-old boy at the hands of a close relative ended when he was rescued.

The boy is now in hospital after he was taken from his low-cost house in Taman Daya here by MCA Pasir Gudang members and police who were alerted of the abuse by a neighbour.

Identified only as Sunny, the boy’s body was covered with bruises and he has difficulties standing straight due to injuries to his spine and knees.

There were also strangulation marks on his neck and burn marks on his back.

Doctors at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital are compiling a report to be submitted to the police who will then decide on whether to charge the close relative.

MCA Pasir Gudang division crime prevention squad chairman Lim Thaw Siang said a neighbour said the boy was not only constantly abused but also denied food.

"We went to the house with the police and took him to the Johor Jaya police station. Upon seeing the injuries, police sent him to the hospital," he said, adding the neighbour alleged the beatings usually took place at midnight.

The boy’s father, a fish-monger, said he worked long hours and could not always be with his son.

He said he had advised the close relative to stop the abuse but this was ignored.

----Case 2----

Man held in probe into death of son

11 February, 2007

KLANG: An odd-job worker is alleged to have kicked his two-year-old son to death in a fit of rage, stuffed the body in a bag and threw it into a drain in Rantau Panjang here two weeks ago. The father of seven then threatened the family into silence.

Realising he was in deep trouble, the man threatened his wife and the other children to keep the death a secret or face a similar fate.

His 26-year-old wife, thinking the child was still alive, had earlier pleaded with him to send the toddler to hospital but the man refused.

Police sources said the man locked the house every time he went out, keeping the family prisoner in their home.

But their break came when he left the back door unlocked on Thursday. His wife took the opportunity to escape and inform a relative about the incident.

A report was lodged on Thursday night at the district police headquarters with a police team being dispatched immediately to the house.

On seeing the police, the suspect bolted, but a police dog unit later found him hiding in nearby bushes. He was arrested about 1am yesterday.

He is believed to have shown the place where the body was allegedly thrown, but police have yet to recover it.

Investigations also revealed that the suspect may have also been abusing his other children as they had bruises on their bodies. The oldest child also had a fracture on his left hand.

The children were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital here for a medical examination.

Police have got a six-day remand order for the suspect.

PDRoMeo, PDRoMeo! Wherefore art thou PDRoMeo?

Township battles against burglars

By STUART MICHAEL

There are no crocodiles in Bandar Sungai Buaya in Rawang but the 1,000 residents living here are having sleepless nights for another reason; a surge in crime rate.

The township is living under fear as one particular group of burglars are said to be using spells to rob victims of their cash and valuables.

The group normally break into homes in the wee hours of morning when the residents are fast asleep.

For the last six months, there were 14 burglary cases reported in this township forcing the residents to form the Bandar Sungai Buaya Action Committee which are mainly involved in carrying out patrols from 12 midnight to 5am.

Mohd Khalid Mohamad Jamil (right) whose home was robbed five times
being asked to calm down by Noor Zuraimi Abdul Razak during the dialogue
at SMK Bandar Sungai Buaya recently.

The residents started the patrol activity two months ago in an effort to keep the burglars away.

The chairman of the committee Dr Mohd Hatta Usul who was a burglary victim himself injured his legs when he decided to take on the burglars who broke into his house three months ago.

Wan Marzuki ... the robbers
threatened to rape his daughter if
he did not tell them where the
jewellery and cash were kept

“Luckily my son came to my aid quickly which forced the burglars to flee but the incident had caused my family members to lose sleep,” said Dr Hatta.

Another victim Mohd Khalid Mohamad Jamil, said his house was burglarised five times since he moved to Bandar Sungai Buaya seven years ago.

“Each time the burglars broke into my house, my body just freezed and I was unable to do anything. It appears as though these people are using some sort of charm to rob the residents here,” said Mohd Khalid who is a senior human resources and administration executive for UEM Land.

Another victim Wan Marzuki Rashidi, 43, a teacher in SMK Bandar Utama, who had been living in the area for six years said his sleep was easily disturbed the moment he hears the slightest sound in the wee hours of the morning.

“Three burglars had broken into my house through my front sliding door last month. They were armed with a screwdriver, steel pipe and a wood. They tied my wife and I with a steel wire and threatened to rape my daughter if we do not tell them where the jewellery and cash were kept,” said Wan Marzuki.

Last Sunday, the committee held a dialogue with the police, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Hulu Selangor District Council president Sukiman Naim at SMK Bandar Sungai Buaya urging for the police station to be built at their township instead of Kampung Sungai Buaya.

The committee also sought the assistance of the Immigration Department and the council to do spot check on a few illegal settlements in the area.

They also appealed to the police to have patrol cars to do their rounds in their township from midnight to 6am and for TNB to put up streetlights along the road leading Bandar Sungai Buaya.

NST - Gen2's body-shell strength?

What is your expectation of Gen2's body-shell strength as well as it's safety rating? Reading this NST - Fatal plunge from condo car park definitely confirmed what most people expect. Not much!

Fatal plunge from condo car park

By Devinder Singh

25 May, 2006

KUALA LUMPUR: For several heart-stopping seconds on Tuesday night, a car dangled precariously on the edge of a second-floor car park at a condominium in Sentul. Before the driver could get out, the car tipped over and tumbled down to the road 15 metres below.

Mohd Shahrul Nizam Mohd Yusof, 28, succumbed to his injuries two hours after being rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital from the Sri Suajaya Condominium on Jalan Sentul.

Shahrul was reversing his Proton Gen.2 into the parking lot when the car suddenly lurched backwards and crashed through the railing.

The car dangled on the edge for several seconds, giving the front passenger just enough time to get out. But before Shahrul himself could escape, the car fell.

Shahrul, a Kuala Lumpur City Hall employee, suffered severe head injuries and died at 12.50am yesterday.

His brother, Mohd Hakim, met at the mortuary yesterday, said Shahrul was the youngest of eight siblings and was staying with four friends in a rented unit.

Shahrul was returning home after dinner with his girlfriend when the accident occurred.

The wrecked car was towed to the Sentul police station.

Litigation recourse? - Lorry on tracks halts Komuter services

I wonder what else can KTMB do when I read the NST- Lorry on tracks halts Komuter services. Shouldn;t they sue the contractor for damages?

Why not??

Lorry on tracks halts Komuter services

17 May, 2006

KUALA LUMPUR: A runaway lorry disrupted the KTM Komuter service yesterday evening, leaving 3,000 passengers stranded by a freak accident. The lorry, carrying construction material, was parked on an unfinished elevated highway near Jalan Ipoh when its brakes failed, causing it to plunge 15 metres down onto the railway tracks.

The lorry also brought down power lines, causing six trains to stall. There were no casualties.

The mishap resulted in the closure of the stretch of railway track between Putra and Sentul stations.

Datuk Mohd Salleh Abdulah, managing director of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad, said he was at the control centre at KL Sentral when he received a call about a service disruption at Sentul.

"I got on the commuter service and after the train passed the Putra station, it could not go any further and passengers were forced to get down mid-way," he said.

"I am not satisfied with the contractor. Imagine what would have happened had the lorry plunged down when a train was passing."

Salleh said KTMB staff and the contractors were working around the clock to clear the tracks, and a crane was used to lift the lorry off the tracks.

"We are rescheduling the service to use the track with the power line still intact," he said.

Brothers honoured: Army chief, TV3 official receive datukships

I don't really know why this deserve any mention in the news, Brothers honoured: Army chief, TV3 official receive datukships.

That army chief guy, he already have 3 other 'datuk'ships. "Abdul Aziz, the eldest of four siblings, had received three Datuks, a Datuk Paduka, a Datuk Wira and three Datuk Seris since 1998." So, how many does he need? Or for that matter anyone needs?

Malaysia boleh!

Brothers honoured: Army chief, TV3 official receive datukships

No one was more surprised than army chief Jeneral Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Zainal and his youngest brother Datuk Kamarulzaman Zainal when they found out that both would get an award from the Sultan of Kedah today. While Abdul Aziz, 54, was awarded with Datuk Paduka Seri Setia Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (DHMS), which carries the title "Datuk Paduka", his 49-year-old brother, who heads Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad news and current affairs, received the Datuk Setia Diraja Kedah (DSDK), which carries the title "Datuk".

They were among 85 people to receive the awards from the Sultan in conjunction with his 78th birthday.

Unaware of each other’s good fortune, the brothers came separately to the investiture at Istana Anak Bukit here.

It was only before the start of the ceremony that they found out and called each other on their mobile phones to offer congratulations. For Abdul Aziz, who is getting his ninth datukship, the moment gave him the perfect opportunity to tease his brother, who is receiving his third.

Abdul Aziz, the eldest of four siblings, had received three Datuks, a Datuk Paduka, a Datuk Wira and three Datuk Seris since 1998.

"I told my brother it’s all right that his award is slightly lower than mine. We’ve always had a healthy sibling rivalry and it is our friendly way of playing one-upmanship," he said after the ceremony.

Kamarulzaman, however, expressed sadness that their parents, who passed away more than 15 years ago, could share the joy.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the recipient of the highest honour when he received the Darjah Utama Kedah (DUK).

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, received the Seri Setia Diraja Kedah (SSDK), which carries the title Datuk Seri.

Other recipients included Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Paduka Azalina Othman Said with the Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah (DGMK), which carries the title Datuk Wira.

Among the 18 recipients for the Jaksa Pendamai were Datuk Paduka Ismail Shafie, Datuk Wira Syed Zain Syed Abdullah, Kedah Malay Chambers of Commerce chairman Mohd Noor Omar and Cheng Tan Boo.

Present at the event were Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, former Kedah menteris besar Tan Sri Osman Aroff and Tan Sri Sanusi Junid. Absent was former MB Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain, who stepped down last month.

NST newsMemo to PM - Call for review of laws affecting rights of non-Muslims

Is this pushing things too far?

Mind you, when the colonial masters were here, they were 'enlightened' enough to keep the satus quo, i.e. religion of Islam is not to be touched in any ways by the non-Muslims.

Is it a sensitive issue, and avoiding it is not a solution.

Changing a term in the constitution should not be a recourse to adress the issues touching on conversion between Islam into other faiths, or vice-versa. The best form of action is to have regulations within the constitutional framework to make it compulsory for converts or reverts to publish their intention (or action) so that every interested parties could be made known of it. NRD is one avenue to record these. After all, they have been doing it for marriages of non-muslims all these whiles. Just another task, i.e. recording and notifying of conversion / reversion.

Coming back to the issue of Syariah juridiction, leave the Muslims to handle their own religion, and no meddling please!

Memo to PM

Call for review of laws affecting rights of non-Muslims
By Chow Kum Hor and Deborah Loh

In an unprecedented move, non-Muslim ministers submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister yesterday calling for a review of laws affecting the rights of non-Muslims. Nine of the 10 non-Muslim Cabinet members signed the memorandum. The exception was Tourism Minister Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad, who is abroad.

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, submitted the memorandum on behalf of his non-Muslim colleagues to Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at a Cabinet meeting.

It is learnt that the MCA religious and legal bureaus took the lead in drafting the memorandum, with input from other Barisan Nasional component parties and non-governmental organisations.

An MCA source said the memorandum, among other things, called for:

• The Government to review Article 121(1A) of the Federal Constitution, which stipulates that civil courts have no jurisdiction over matters relating to Islam, which fall under the purview of the Syariah Court;

• The Government to amend laws that allow only one parent to convert children below 18 years of age; and,

• Rectifying conflicts between Syariah and civil laws.

The call for a "review" of Article 121(1A) is said to have been precipitated by instances of judges allowing the Syariah Court to handle several high-profile cases involving disputes between Muslims and non-Muslims.

The ministers who signed the memorandum were Ong, Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy (Transport), Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn (Human Resources), Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek (Health), Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu (Works), Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik (Energy, Water and Communications), Datuk Peter Chin (Plantation Enterprises and Commodities), and Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and Datuk Maximus Ongkili (Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department).

Bernama quoted Ongkili as saying that the proposal would be studied by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of law, Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, and the attorney-general.

"They will make the necesary recommendations for further action," he was quoted as saying.

Ongkili also said that this showed the Government was open and willing to consider public opinion on the issue.

Late last year, the MCA submitted a memorandum to Abdullah asking the Government to look into laws that encroached on the rights of non-Muslims.

Yesterday’s memorandum followed concerns over the dispute between the widow of M. Moorthy @ Mohammad Abdullah and the Federal Territory Religious Council over the question of whether her husband had converted to Islam.

It is learnt that some ministers had held talks with inter-faith groups on the draft of the memorandum.

Rev Wong Kim Kong of the Malaysian Consultative Council on Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism (MCCBCHS) said some ministers met council members after submitting the memorandum to Abdullah.

"Some of them came to see us and we discussed the memorandum. They also briefed us on what happened on the matter," he said.

He said the ministers said Abdullah had responded positively, agreeing to find time soon to meet the inter-faith council. Wong said the ministers felt the matter was serious enough to be placed on record in an official document.

"It is not enough to articulate it verbally, even though they are ministers with direct access to the Prime Minister. It had to be put in black and white."

Wong said he had come to understand that a Pas Youth group planned to demonstrate outside Masjid Negara after prayers tomorrow, to protest against the debate on whether there should be legal safeguards for non-Muslims involved in Islamic affairs.

"The public debate on this matter has so far been very rational and has focused specifically on the law and Constitution," Wong said. "We are concerned that some groups want to turn it into an emotional issue.

"It is an issue regarding the law, our Constitution, and human rights. It should not be looked at as only a religious issue. It is a social issue emerging out of a religious matter."

Wong said the council wanted to make it clear that the issue was not a case of confrontation between non-Muslims and Muslims.

Hadis palsu berkenaan Fadilat Ramadhan

Kepalsuan hadis kelebihan Tarawih

  • Malam kesembilan: Allah kurniakan pahala dan dinaikkan mutu ibadat hambanya seperti Nabi Muhammad S.A.W.

SELAMAT BERPUASA DAN BERIBADAT MENGIKUT SUNNAH RASULULLAH S.A.W.
